As 2006 draws to a close Top Women in Business & Government (TWBG) reflects on what has been another successful year.

As a showcase of the strength, entrepreneurial flair and business acumen of South African women, and of the forward-thinking and best practice of organisations that are committed to the promotion of women in business and government, TWBG has gone from strength to strength.

Moving into our fourth edition we wish to congratulate these women and organisations as further groundwork is laid for 2007. All the women profiled in the publication are women business celebrities of a sort; they are icons to young or emerging entrepreneurs, and they stand as inspiration to women in business across sectors. The collective experiences of these and other women leaders, entrepreneurs, businesswomen, women in government; businesses, organisations and partners to TWGB and its supporting events are the very reason for the establishment and continued growth of the project.

We also wish to express our thanks and gratitude to our partners, sponsors and stakeholders for their continued support of the publication as well as their ongoing show of confidence in the diversity of an engendered society. Thanks go to:

We still face many challenges en route to the full emancipation and empowerment of women in South Africa, but brick by brick we aim to build the profile of those companies, organisations and individuals (men and women) committed to women’s empowerment while assisting others in following suite – doing what we can to ensure equity for women in South Africa.

In Support

Top Women in Business & Government is a proud supporter of:

The South African – Netherlands Chamber of Commerce (SANEC)
“For recent events organised by SANEC we have turned to the Top Women in Business and Government publication to ensure a proper match between women entrepreneurs from the Netherlands and those in South Africa. This tool proved invaluable in linking profiles; an exercise that has resulted in new business relations between women in both countries to such an extent that an ongoing network has emerged.”Mar-Loes Mantoua: General Manager of SANEC

South African Women Entrepreneurs Network (SAWEN)

Non-Government Organisations (NGOs): TWBG applauds and supports the work of NGOs and we have taken the decision to host NGO advertising on our homepage www.businesswomen.co.za for free in show of this support, among other channels.

Women Entrepreneurs: In line with our support of women entrepreneurs, we are continue to champion the education and skills development of South Africa’s girl children, assisting wherever we can in bringing school-going delegates to our many supporting events. As with NGOs we have taken the decision to support women entrepreneurs through hosting information on their business activities on our homepage.

WHEAT Trust: We proudly support the WHEAT Trust and are honoured to have been part of the hugely successful ‘1000 Women united against domestic violence and poverty’ hosted by the Trust

16 Days of Activism Against the Abuse of Women and Children campaign: We actively support the ’16 days of Activism’ campaign advocating the fundamental right of women and children to live with dignity, free from fear, violence and abuse – verbal, emotional or physical.

We also enjoy ongoing partnerships with: The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE); WESGRO; The Cape Chambers of Commerce; The University of Cape Town Graduate School of Business (UCT GSB); Student Village; The Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWA); The Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS); The Skills Framework; The Singer Group, and Sante Winelands Hotel and Wellness Centre.

Conferences

In line with the editorial direction of this year’s publication TopCo Media (formerly Top Companies Publishing & Events) hosted the ‘Women The Brand’ conference in July 2006.

The conference, which drew widespread attention, focused on advertising and marketing to women as an untapped consumer market – presenting new ideas and lateral creative strategies to reach South African women in a more authentic way.

The conference was proudly endorsed by The Businesswomen’s Association of South Africa (BWA) with Media Partners: Women24, Brand Magazine and The Marketingsite.com.  The Conference’s Strategic Alliance Partner was the African Response. Speakers including marketing guru Chris Moedyk; Michelle Buthelezi of the Businesswomen's Association; Editor-in-Chief of Women24.com Sam Wilson; Connie Nkosi: Board Member of Pick and Pay; Dr Anina Maree: Associate Director of Media at Africa Response; Nic Bednall of BBDO and Retha Van Hove: Advertising Manager of Peugeot Motors SA
